Is Dysbiosis Wreaking Havoc on Your Health?

Simply put, Dysbiosis is when there is a gut imbalance. When the 100 trillion or so microorganisms living in your gut are thrown out of balance they can create an atmosphere vulnerable to disease and other ill effects. The one thing I want you to learn here is that gut symbiosis is essential to health.
Microbiota and Microbiome
When speaking about intestinal health these two terms are sometimes used interchangeably but, they do actually have two different meanings. “Microbiota” refers to the microbes that reside inside the gut. “Microbiome” refers to the collective genes these microbial cells contain.
While the concepts of the gut microbiome and microbiota have been around for several years, we have recently gained an enhanced understanding of its composition and role in health due to advances in metagenomics, bioinformatic tools, and DNA sequencing technology. This new information is beneficial for testing and diagnosis.
Over the course of an individual’s lifetime, their microbial composition changes. These changes are important to understand in order to identify factors that may impact the microbial composition and therefore, health. As we age, the composition of microbiota typically becomes less diverse. Research has identified a number of factors that can affect microbiota composition. Stress, Diet, Genetics, Infections, and Medications are just a few. Needless to say, these microorganisms play an integral role in maintaining health and disease. And diversity seems to be key.
Who Should Be Tested?
Almost every patient can benefit from a GI-MAP gut health assessment. Some patients are looking to achieve optimal health, while other patients have been chronically ill and frustrated without a diagnosis for years.
Some conditions that warrant testing are:
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • IBS/IBD
  • Digestive complaints, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Brain fog
  • Skin problems, like acne and psoriasis
  • Mood disorders, depression, and anxiety
  • Diabetes and weight loss issues
I have been using Diagnostic Solutions Lab for many years. Specifically, the GI Microbial Assay Plus, known as GI-MAP, is known for accuracy and reliability and allows me to create personalized treatment protocols to address gut dysfunction based on which infections are urgent, which areas of the gut are already optimized, and which areas should be addressed after an infection is resolved
Take the gastrointestinal questionnaire.
